Using Variables in Custom Text

When customizing the Header or Footer there are certain text strings you can enter that will be replaced with meaningful values when your PDF document is created. They are described below.

Using Variables in Custom Text

Using Variables in Custom Text

When entering the text to use in the header, footer and page numbering there are special placeholders you can use.

Header and Footer text: Use [[Document_Title]] to have the subject of the document inserted.

Footer: Use [[File_Name]] to insert the name of the PDF file in the footer.

Page Numbering: Use [[Page_Number]] and [[Page_Count]] to have the page number and number of pages inserted.

Is there a way to eliminate the horizontal line in the footer. I was able to eliminate everything in the header, but the horizontal footer line still shows up. I would like to have ONLY paragraph text and a screenshot..nothing more, but haven't figured out how to format that. Thanks.

Trevor DeVore

@Malley there is not a way to hide the footer as of version 1.1.1.

Hi, would also be good to have the option to put [[File_Name]] in the footer.

Thanks

Steffan

Allan

Can you add a date to the footer?

Have tried [[dd/mm/yyyy]] but doesn't work.

Thanks

Allan

Trevor DeVore

@Steffan: Version 1.1.2 added support for [[File_Name]] in the footer.

Trevor DeVore

@Allan We don't have a way of inserting the date into the footer right now. It is something we are looking into.

Kelly

I considered this for work, there's only one thing I am missing: The ability to add a multiline footer. Basically, our userguide templates include our contact information on the left side of the footer. That - I'd need to duplicate.

Trevor DeVore

@Kelly Look for PDF template improvements that allow better customization in the next major upgrade to Clarify.

Allan

@Trevor - When will the next major update be released please?

Blue Mango

@Allan We don't have a release date to announce at this time.

Paul

Is there a way to use Roman numerals in the page numbers?

Trevor DeVore

@Paul - not without digging into a PDF template and modifying the files by hand. We will be providing a way to customize PDF output (such as specifying that page numbers be roman numerals) in Clarify 2, which is being worked on now.

Hi Trevor... I wondered if there was a list somewhere of all the variables defined for headers & footers... I know the new version has got to be out soon and I'd really like to help with the beta... I thought I heard Allison say she had the beta already...

Trevor DeVore

@Ian - if you want to be included in the private beta of Clarify then email [email protected] and let us know. That will allow me to tag your user account so that we notify you. Allison doesn't have a beta yet but we will be sending one out very soon.

As for variables - I just added [[File_Name]] to the list in this article. Those are all of the variables right now. Version 2 will have more options.
